We're looking for thinkers, not just builders.
LUCENT works at the boundaries of computing — where photonics, memristors, and AI algorithms meet. If you're excited about that overlap, we want to hear from you.
What we look for
- Strong backgrounds in computer architecture, VLSI, electromagnetic field theory, and/or photonics.
- Hands-on design experience — circuits, simulation, FPGAs, or photonic device design.
- Solid programming skills (Python, C/C++, and ideally GPU programming).
- Most importantly: thinkers who are passionate about pushing the boundaries of computing — comfortable being uncertain, willing to follow a problem wherever it leads.
Currently open
- PhD positions — open to qualified candidates worldwide.
- MS / Bachelors project positions — open to current UTSA students only.
How to apply
- PhD admission: Apply through the UTSA Computer Engineering / Electrical & Computer Engineering graduate program and mention LUCENT and Dr. Dang in your statement of purpose.
- UTSA MS / UG students: email Dr. Dang directly at dharanidhar.dang@utsa.edu with your CV and a short paragraph on your interests and what you'd like to work on.
- Browse the research areas first — specific project pitches in your email go a long way.
